As the mother of three sons who were all diagnosed with severe food allergies as babies, I worked for years to find answers to the medical, day-to-day, and emotional aspects of this lifelong challenge. Along the way, I learned a number of truths about food and nutrition, and became interested in the ways that being aware of what and how we eat can lead to better health as well as sense of well-being that radiates throughout our lives. I had to fight through a maze of misinformation and ignorance to get the answers I needed- I don’t want anyone else to have to do that.
I often say that as a mom I had a mission to help my sons, then my mission for them became a passion to learn, and over the years my passion for knowledge became my practice of teaching and healing. I became a Health Counselor to help others improve their health, well-being, and family life. I’m committed to teaching, learning, and inspiring, as well as providing practical tips, recipes, medical information (including how to talk to your doctor), and personal stories to enrich and foster a sense of confidence, discovery, and laughter. Changing your life for the better is not about what you give up – it’s about learning what you need to do on the way to finding meaning, and joy. Putting it simply, I’ll help you find the right fuel for the way you want to live.
I received my education from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where I was trained in more than one hundred dietary theories and studied a variety of practical lifestyle coaching methods. I am also continuing my studies with the Institute for Functional Medicine. Drawing on this knowledge, and my own life experiences, I will help you create a completely personalized “roadmap to health” that suits your unique body, lifestyle, preferences, and goals. A “one size fits all” approach doesn’t work with clothing, cars, or even entertainment; why would it work with something as personal as health and nutrition? I learned over time that each of my children was different and needed different solutions, and the same goes for you. I’ve come to utilize a nurturing, positive way of approaching food issues that embraces all parts of our lives– mood, food, medicine, and what on earth to put on the table for dinner tonight – with confidence, compassion, and humor.
Real food, real life, real results: I’ve lived it, I’ve studied it, and in my work, I’ve learned things that are not taught in textbooks. I offer answers, day-to-day strategies, and a sense of community to families, children, and adults dealing with food allergies, as well as to those with general nutrition needs, urgent medical problems, and athletes with specialized nutrition needs. I know first-hand life lessons, I specialize in helping my clients navigate life and feel better with a personal touch, and for the past 23 years I have crafted unique recipes and health management strategies to accomplish just that.
